Super Bowl Nonsense: Greased Poles, $100 Salads, and #Rigged

Super Bowl 59 delivered wild trends, from overpriced cocktails to conspiracy theories. Eagles fans struggled to spell, refs got roasted, and, no—Travis Kelce did NOT propose to Taylor Swift.

Here are a few of the sillier things that were trending on Super Bowl Sunday…

1.  Before the game, a reporter for Fox 29 in Philadelphia was excited to announce that for the first time ever, cops in New Orleans greased the poles on Bourton Street.  Philly does it to prevent fans from climbing the streetlights.  Here’s the video.

2.  The conspiracy crowd was out in full force again.  “#Rigged” immediately started trending after a questionable call went against the Eagles in the first quarter.  People claimed the refs were in the tank for Kansas City, but then the Eagles crushed.  So that got shut down pretty quick.

3.  “Barstool Sports” posted a round-up of Eagles fans who couldn’t spell “Eagles”.  It’s been a trending topic since the mayor of Philadelphia spelled it wrong last month.  (Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni’s son got it right.)

4.  Photos of concession prices at the game were all over social media.  Two that made headlines were a $59 cocktail and a $100 Caprese Crab Salad.

5.  Fox’s Super Bowl scorebug caught heat online.  People thought the graphic at the bottom of the screen was boring, like they’d used a free font or something.

6.  It became such a blowout, a lot of viewers just started paying attention to prop bets.  Here’s how some of the sillier ones played out . . .

Heads or tails? (Tails) . . . Was Taylor Swift shown during the National Anthem?  (No) . . . Did Kendrick Lamar perform with a hat on?  (Yes) . . . Did he mention Drake?  (Yes) . . . Gatorade bath color? (Yellow) . . . and was there a “tush-push” touchdown?  (Yes)

Like last year, some people also thought Travis Kelce would propose to Taylor on the field after the game.  He did not.  (Better luck next year, Tay Tay.)

Scott’s 40 years in broadcasting have left him fluent in snark, while Sadie’s nepotistic origins (thanks, Mom!) brought the unfiltered charm that made them a Northern Colorado favorite. After corporate radio ghosted them harder than a bad Tinder date, the duo ditched FCC babysitters and went full rogue. Now, they’re back with a podcast that’s equal parts wit, sarcasm, and a big middle finger to mediocrity. Loyal fans, curious newcomers, or algorithm strays—welcome to the chaos.
