National Hot Sauce Day: Here’s Each State’s Favorite Type

Happy National Hot Sauce Day! A report from Instacart found Frank’s RedHot is still the most popular brand in America. New Mexico uses more hot sauce per capita than any other state. Alabama uses the least.

World Toilet Day was back in November.  But it should really be tomorrow . . . Happy National Hot Sauce Day!

Instacart released a big report that looked at which states use the most hot sauce per capita based on last year’s sales.

New Mexico tops the list at 31.9 ounces per customer, followed by Alaska and Colorado.  Alabama ordered the least at 16.6 ounces.

They also looked at each state’s favorite hot sauce brand.  There are eight across all 50 states, but one brand still dominates . . .

1.  Frank’s RedHot.  It’s the top choice in the Northeast, most of the Midwest, and a bunch of other states across the U.S.  It’s #1 in 28 different states, including Colorado?!

2.  Burman’s Hot Sauce.  It’s a popular pick at Aldi’s . . . basically a Frank’s RedHot knockoff but cheaper.  It’s the top choice in seven states:  Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, and South Dakota.

3.  Louisiana Brand Hot Sauce.  Five states:  Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee . . . and yes, Louisiana.

4.  Cholula.  Four states:  Utah, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana.

5.  Texas Pete.  Three states:  Virginia and both Carolinas.  Despite the name, it’s actually been made in North Carolina since 1929.  (Some guy sued them for false advertising a few years back, but lost.)

Three different sauces got one state each.  Tabasco in Hawaii . . . 505 Southwestern in New Mexico . . . and Tapatio in California.  (tah-pah-TEE-oh)

Scott’s 40 years in broadcasting have left him fluent in snark, while Sadie’s nepotistic origins (thanks, Mom!) brought the unfiltered charm that made them a Northern Colorado favorite. After corporate radio ghosted them harder than a bad Tinder date, the duo ditched FCC babysitters and went full rogue. Now, they’re back with a podcast that’s equal parts wit, sarcasm, and a big middle finger to mediocrity. Loyal fans, curious newcomers, or algorithm strays—welcome to the chaos.
