A Woman Found Out the Hard Way Why They Say: “Breed Like Rabbits”

A Michigan woman’s pet rabbits multiplied out of control, leading to over 65 rabbits overrunning her home—many needing urgent care. 🐇

Do you know why they say, “breed like rabbits”?  Well one woman learned that lesson the hard way.

A woman in Michigan called Saginaw County Animal Care & Control, and said she needed help, because her house had become OVERRUN by rabbits.

She said she bought a few rabbits as pets for her kids . . . but they started breeding, and she couldn’t stop them.

The woman tried to separate them by putting them in pens in her basement . . . but they got around that by chewing through drywall and other materials, making it “impossible” to contain them.

She thought the number of rabbits had grown to 50, but animal control removed more than 65.  And it was even worse, because many of the female rabbits were pregnant.

It’s unclear how long ago she bought the initial rabbits, but it couldn’t have been this past Easter, since it takes at least a month for new rabbits to be born.

As ridiculous as this situation is, it’s mostly SAD.  Many of the rabbits needed immediate medical attention . . . and several were so bad that they had to be euthanized.  There were also signs that additional rabbits had died previously in this woman’s “care.”

It’s unclear if the woman will face any sort of punishment . . . but officials say they’re doing everything they can to treat the animals and place them in good homes.

A shelter is reminding people that even “well-intentioned” pet ownership can lead to unmanageable situations without proactive spaying and neutering.
