What Are You Doing with Your Old Phones?

Still holding onto that flip phone from 2002? You’re not alone. A third of Americans are hoarding old tech and don’t know what to do with it.

Here’s a question for you:  How many cell phones do you have inside your home?  Don’t answer too fast.  This includes the old, retired ones that are collecting dust in drawers somewhere.

A recent survey found that 31% of American adults hang onto old devices, because they aren’t sure what to do with phones . . . video game consoles . . . laptops . . . cords . . . and other tech accessories they no longer use.

19% of people say they DO throw away old tech.  (They didn’t ask how many people dispose of them CORRECTLY, versus people who just toss them in the garbage can.)

37% say they like to trade in their old electronics for an exchange or upgrade.  And 25% try to sell all their old tech.  (Which is nice in theory, but it’s not really possible when the devices are broken or too outdated to sell.)

30% say they give old devices away to friends and family whenever possible . . . and 17% have donated them to charity.  (Remember:  You don’t have to feel pressured into upgrading tech that’s working perfectly fine.)

Meet Scott and Sadie: the anti-heroes of morning radio turned podcast renegades. Scott’s 40 years in broadcasting have left him fluent in snark, while Sadie’s nepotistic origins (thanks, Mom!) brought the unfiltered charm that made them a Northern Colorado favorite. After corporate radio ghosted them harder than a bad Tinder date, the duo ditched FCC babysitters and went full rogue. Now, they’re back with a podcast that’s equal parts wit, sarcasm, and a big middle finger to mediocrity. Loyal fans, curious newcomers, or algorithm strays—welcome to the chaos.
