This Study Proves Bad Office Music Might Be Driving Employees Slowly Insane

Bad background music at work isn’t just annoying—it’s killing your mood and productivity, one repetitive pop song at a time.

Have you ever been at a business . . . heard the music being played . . . and thought, “I’d go CRAZY if I had to work here all day”?

A new study has found that bad background music at work can destroy employees’ moods and productivity.

Of course, “bad” music is subjective.  But even if it’s “upbeat and customer-friendly,” it can be mentally draining to the workers if it’s not what they like to listen to.

Think about the holidays:  Employees who enjoy Christmas music can seem MUCH more engaged and pleasant than the ones who are one “All I Want for Christmas” away from a psychotic break.

Big corporate places probably won’t change anything, but small businesses can benefit by allowing the staff to pick their own music (within reason) . . . or by creating “quiet zones” where they’re able to escape the madness.

Meet Scott and Sadie: the anti-heroes of morning radio turned podcast renegades. Scott’s 40 years in broadcasting have left him fluent in snark, while Sadie’s nepotistic origins (thanks, Mom!) brought the unfiltered charm that made them a Northern Colorado favorite. After corporate radio ghosted them harder than a bad Tinder date, the duo ditched FCC babysitters and went full rogue. Now, they’re back with a podcast that’s equal parts wit, sarcasm, and a big middle finger to mediocrity. Loyal fans, curious newcomers, or algorithm strays—welcome to the chaos.
