Outdated Slang We Still Shamelessly Use

Outdated or timeless? People are clinging to slang like “gnarly” and “bomb.com”—and younger folks are cringing (but secretly jealous).

Remember “Dazed and Confused”, when Matthew McConaughey’s character says, “That’s what I love about these high school girls, man.  I get older, they stay the same age.”

Well, the same can be said for your go-to SLANG.  It stays the same age.

Someone asked the internet, “What ‘outdated’ slang words or terms do you still use often?”  And you can probably tell how old people are by their responses:

1.  “Gnarly.”

2.  “Stoked.”

3.  “Sweet!”

4.  “Word.”

5.  “Sick!”

6.  “Peace,” instead of “goodbye.”

7.  “Dude,” regardless of gender or era.

8.  “Tight!”

9.  “Okie dokie.”

10.  “Now we’re cooking with gas.”

11.  “Can you dig it?”

12.  “Da bomb.”  Or, “It’s the Bomb.com.”

13.  “Hella.”

14.  “Bees knees.”

15.  “Bogus.”

16.  “Whippersnapper.”

17.  “Homeslice.”

18.  “Smell ya later!”

19.  “Oh, snap!”

20.  “Fetch!”

21.  “Totes.”

22.  “Golly.”

23.  “Noiiiiice!”

24.  “Jeez Louise.”

25.  Someone said, “I’m known as the ‘Right On’ guy at work.”

26.  Someone said, “I still use ‘bruh’ and ‘slay.’  It’s cringe when I catch myself saying it, but it just falls out.”

27.  Someone said, I say “bananas” way too much.

28.  Someone said, “I still call people ‘cats’ occasionally.”

29.  Someone said, “‘Daddles’ . . . a Victorian Era slang term for ‘fists.'”  (???)

30.  And, “Come on sweetheart, let’s blow this pop stand.”

What’s the last thing you said that a YOUNGER PERSON gently let you know is now OUTDATED or UNCOOL?

Scott and Sadie

Meet Scott and Sadie: the anti-heroes of morning radio turned podcast renegades. Scott’s 40 years in broadcasting have left him fluent in snark, while Sadie’s nepotistic origins (thanks, Mom!) brought the unfiltered charm that made them a Northern Colorado favorite. After corporate radio ghosted them harder than a bad Tinder date, the duo ditched FCC babysitters and went full rogue. Now, they’re back with a podcast that’s equal parts wit, sarcasm, and a big middle finger to mediocrity. Loyal fans, curious newcomers, or algorithm strays—welcome to the chaos.
