We wonder if these answers would change if they asked the question on a Monday . . .
Would you say your job has a meaningful impact on the world? Or is it totally pointless? Just a means to an end.
A new poll found most Americans DO feel like their job has meaning. 62% said yes . . . 18% aren’t sure . . . and 20% feel like they’re just keeping a chair warm.
College grads were a little more likely to think their job does make a difference. So were people with classic “office” jobs that involve meetings and emails.
If your job doesn’t involve those two things, there’s a 31% chance you feel like you’re just spinning your wheels to earn a paycheck.

The industry I work in is necessary, but my job itself really isn’t meaningful. I work for a small beef plant that does sell meat to larger processing plants. But honestly I’m just pushing papers. I show up for the coffee and a check. (I’m the “meetings and emails” type…) Don’t get me wrong, I mostly enjoy what I do and who I work for. I have a lot of freedoms and flexibility most people don’t get. But it’s not meaningful work! I’m not changing lives. I’m not the hero in someone’s story. And I don’t even work the front desk enough anymore to say maybe I impact people on a personal level by just having conversation. I’m hidden away in a back office at a location no customers come to 90% of the time. Completely meaningless work, honestly.
