Can’t Hear at Bars? Try This Finger-Tapping Trick

Struggling to hear in loud bars? A new study says tapping your finger or foot to the beat can help your brain tune out background noise.

Did you hit a bar this weekend that was so loud, you could barely hear your friends talk?  Here’s something that might help next time . . .

A new study found a simple trick can help you hear better when there’s a lot of background noise.  Try tapping your finger.  (???)

Researchers in France tested people’s hearing by having them listen to someone talk, but made it harder by adding background noise.

For some reason, they could pick out more words in each sentence when they tapped their finger.  It worked if they tapped along to a beat, or in a rhythm at their own pace.

They think it just comes down to how our brains are wired.  The part that controls fine motor functions is somehow intertwined with the part that controls hearing.

They say tapping or moving to a melody can help your brain tune out all that background noise.  So the next time you can’t hear because the music is too loud, try tapping your foot to it and see if it helps.

Meet Scott and Sadie: the anti-heroes of morning radio turned podcast renegades. Scott’s 40 years in broadcasting have left him fluent in snark, while Sadie’s nepotistic origins (thanks, Mom!) brought the unfiltered charm that made them a Northern Colorado favorite. After corporate radio ghosted them harder than a bad Tinder date, the duo ditched FCC babysitters and went full rogue. Now, they’re back with a podcast that’s equal parts wit, sarcasm, and a big middle finger to mediocrity. Loyal fans, curious newcomers, or algorithm strays—welcome to the chaos.
