United Flight Turns Around Mid-Ocean Because Pilot Forgot Passport

A United flight to Shanghai turned around mid-Pacific after a pilot forgot his passport. Passengers? Six hours late. $15 voucher. Thanks, I guess?

Imagine you’re flying overseas.  You got to the airport early, made your flight, and this happens . . .

A United Airlines flight from L.A. to Shanghai had to turn around over the Pacific on Saturday . . . because a PILOT forgot his passport.

It was already set to be a 14-hour flight.  They turned around about an hour and 45 minutes in, then landed in San Francisco to swap out the crew.

They got to San Fran about three hours after taking off from L.A.  Passengers were told there’d been a “crew-related issue,” but didn’t hear about the passport thing until later.

They waited around for five hours before finally taking off again.  They ended up landing in Shanghai about six hours late.

United reportedly gave each passenger a $15 meal voucher for the trouble.
