It may seem inappropriate to pass gas in public or when people are nearby. But holding it in could be far worse. Here are six reasons you should never hold in a fart.
1. Mouth gas. (???) When you hold it in, gas can reabsorb into your bloodstream, causing you to BREATHE it out. It’s odorless, but still gross.
2. Bloating. The build-up of gas can make your stomach balloon and feel unpleasant.
3. Cramping. Holding it in too long causes inflammation in your gut, which can lead to cramping.
4. Indigestion. Too much gas can cause issues in your upper stomach.
5. Heartburn. Indigestion can lead to issues higher up, like heartburn.
6. Diverticulitis. It’s when air pockets form in your digestive tract and cause inflammation. It’s painful. So, moral of the story . . . let ’em fly.
