Things People Underestimate Because Anyone Can Do Them… But Actually Require a Lot of Skill

Some things seem easy until you try them—like grilling, driving, or giving directions. A viral thread shares the hardest tasks people underestimate, from public speaking to making a decent sandwich.

If you’ve ever been to a backyard barbecue with someone who hasn’t done much grilling . . . this should resonate.

There’s a viral thread on social media where people are talking about things people underestimate . . . but are actually very hard to do well.  Here are some of the best ones:

1.  Driving . . . Everything about it:  Defensive driving, maneuvering in traffic, having a “feel” for how big your vehicle is, being “predictable,” and parking.

2.  Substitute teaching.

3.  Home cooking, and creating a new recipe.

4.  Making a sandwich . . . A toddler can make one, but seriously, toddler-made sandwiches are disgusting.

5.  Starting and running a business . . . especially in the food industry.

6.  Fast food register worker, and even more-so for drive-thru . . . Someone said, “Have you ever been served by somebody who is actually good at it?  It’ll reinstall your faith in humanity.”

7.  Being able to give good instructions . . . Like a new task at work, a project at home, how to get somewhere, or how to help with something.

8.  Anything that involves dealing with a random bunch of people.

9.  Dancing.

10.  Singing.

11.  Public speaking.

12.  Photography . . . Especially over the past decade, as smartphone cameras have made a lot of people feel like pro photographers.

13.  Bagging groceries.  Well, okay.  But the stakes aren’t sky-high here . . . UNLESS you just splurged on a carton of eggs.

14.  “Casual” sports like golf and bowling.

15.  Hacky-sack.

Meet Scott and Sadie: the anti-heroes of morning radio turned podcast renegades. Scott’s 40 years in broadcasting have left him fluent in snark, while Sadie’s nepotistic origins (thanks, Mom!) brought the unfiltered charm that made them a Northern Colorado favorite. After corporate radio ghosted them harder than a bad Tinder date, the duo ditched FCC babysitters and went full rogue. Now, they’re back with a podcast that’s equal parts wit, sarcasm, and a big middle finger to mediocrity. Loyal fans, curious newcomers, or algorithm strays—welcome to the chaos.
