How Old Do You Have to Be to Say You’re “Middle Aged”?

Merriam-Webster defines “middle aged” as between “about 40” and “about 60.” But a poll found one in four Americans under 40 consider themselves middle aged. And one in five over 60 say the same. What do you think the age range is?

I hate the middle-aged clip art couple I used in this story. Literally hate them. No one is this frickin’ happy or healthy. One of them needs to get fat and the other one needs to look madder-than-hell. But I digress…

Are you “middle aged”?  It depends on who you ask.

There’s never been a consensus on exactly what it is.  Some say anywhere from 35 to 65.  Others think that’s too broad.

Merriam-Webster defines it as between “about 40” and “about 60.”  But a recent poll found plenty of people outside those ages think they fit the bill.

One in four Americans under 40 consider themselves middle aged.  And one in five people over 60 say the same.  So what do YOU think the cutoff is?

What’s the age range where you have to admit you’re not “young” anymore . . . but you still get to claim you’re not an “old person” yet?

Scott and Sadie

Meet Scott and Sadie: the anti-heroes of morning radio turned podcast renegades. Scott’s 40 years in broadcasting have left him fluent in snark, while Sadie’s nepotistic origins (thanks, Mom!) brought the unfiltered charm that made them a Northern Colorado favorite. After corporate radio ghosted them harder than a bad Tinder date, the duo ditched FCC babysitters and went full rogue. Now, they’re back with a podcast that’s equal parts wit, sarcasm, and a big middle finger to mediocrity. Loyal fans, curious newcomers, or algorithm strays—welcome to the chaos.
