How many hours have you wasted playing games on your phone? A British woman’s Candy Crush addiction just won her a big payout in court.
She got hooked on the game years ago and couldn’t stop playing it. Then it was like a gateway drug, and she started playing virtual slot machines too. But a court ruled it wasn’t her fault and blamed her DOCTOR for it. (???)
A few weeks before she started in on Candy Crush, she saw a doctor and complained about restless leg syndrome. So they put her on a medication called ropinirole. (row-PIN-er-all)
It can help people with restless leg syndrome, but also mimics the effects of the feel-good hormone dopamine. So one of the side effects is it can make you more impulsive.
Her doctor didn’t warn her about it, even though they put her on twice the normal dose. So the court ruled her meds were the reason she got hooked on Candy Crush and awarded her $215,000 in damages.
