Happy National Pizza Week! Are you a pineapple fan? These guys aren’t, and they’re being pretty spiteful about it.
A place in England called Lupa Pizza just added a Hawaiian pizza to their menu. But the owners HATE pineapple, so they decided to charge more for it . . . a LOT more.
Their pepperoni pizza costs 12 pounds, or around 15 bucks. But their Hawaiian pizza with ham and pineapple will run you just over $120. (!!!)
Their delivery menu says, “Yeah, for 100 pounds you can have it.” They say to pair it with champagne, since you’re already splurging.
CNN talked to them. And at that point, no one had ordered it yet. But it’s drummed up a ton of publicity.
They say there’s a chance they’ll keep it on the menu and lower the price. Or . . . they might raise it even more.
Their local paper launched a poll asking readers, “Does pineapple belong on pizza?” If “yes” wins, they’ll make their Hawaiian a monthly special. Last we checked, they might have to. “Yes” was winning.
They say no promises on price though. If they do add it long term, they might drop the price, or they might double it.
Does pineapple belong on pizza? During National Pizza Week, share your passion for pizza! Tell us in the comments if you’re Team Pineapple or if fruit on pizza is a culinary crime.
