Study Reveals: Texting ‘IDK’ Makes You Look Like a Lazy Ass—Who Knew?

Groundbreaking research shows that using texting abbreviations makes you seem insincere. Next up: the sky is blue.

A recent study has unveiled the earth-shattering revelation that using texting abbreviations makes you seem insincere. No shit, Sherlock. Apparently, when you can’t be bothered to type out full words, people think you’re a lazy ass. Who would’ve guessed?

Researchers at Stanford University conducted eight experiments with over 5,300 participants and found that individuals who used abbreviations like “IDK” or “GOAT” were perceived as putting in less effort and, shockingly, received fewer responses. It’s almost as if people appreciate a little effort in communication. Mind-blowing.

Lead researcher David Fang expressed surprise at these findings, stating, “We thought texters might like abbreviations because it would convey an informal sense of closeness.” Really, David? You thought typing “K” instead of “OK” would make someone feel warm and fuzzy inside? Maybe next time, try using actual words like a grown-up.

The study also revealed that while younger people tend to use more abbreviations, they aren’t particularly fond of them either. So, even the generation that brought us TikTok dances and avocado toast prefers complete sentences. Who knew?

In conclusion, if you want to come across as sincere and not like a lazy twat, maybe take the extra half-second to type out full words. Your friends and family will thank you, and you might even get a response once in a while. Or don’t, and continue wondering why no one texts you back. Your call.

Meet Scott and Sadie: the anti-heroes of morning radio turned podcast renegades. Scott’s 40 years in broadcasting have left him fluent in snark, while Sadie’s nepotistic origins (thanks, Mom!) brought the unfiltered charm that made them a Northern Colorado favorite. After corporate radio ghosted them harder than a bad Tinder date, the duo ditched FCC babysitters and went full rogue. Now, they’re back with a podcast that’s equal parts wit, sarcasm, and a big middle finger to mediocrity. Loyal fans, curious newcomers, or algorithm strays—welcome to the chaos.
